Traced this back to the Jmicron controller The messge states VendorID: 197BH, DevciceID: 2361H Might explain why the attached drive is isn't always detected. Is this a faulty board or is there a fix??
THe Vendor & device ID match up to devive manager Driver detials, for jmicron controller

From my Field Application Engineer if you get that error message when starting up, then it's likely to be a faulty chip or a poor connection. It sounds like the computer cannot reach the audio chip.

It's most likely to be a defect. You should go for RMA...

Hi Shamino,
thanks for the reply, I'm not sure about the audio chip . as i say i've matched vendor Id r=etc., to the jmicroin controller

I think your right
"then it's likely to be a faulty chip or a poor connection" it's detected about 60% of time. Have restarted PC this am & despite rebooting a couple of times have not seen the drive today:(

"It's most likely to be a defect." think your right.
Am currently in touch with Foxconn Technical Support, will see what happens :)

cheers:)

Well another week further on & this issue is still outstanding. After several more fruitless messages between myself & technical support who don't seem to share Shamino's or my view of the issue.

"Dear,
We really want to help you.
But we don't have the eSATA HDD and aSATA cable as you have.
So we can't have a test.
You'd better contact UK office.
support@foxconchannel.co.uk
They will check of your issue if you could ship the eSATA HDD and aSATA cable to them."
This is after I told support i'm using an internal SATA 2 HD & have tried different drives & different cables . BUT the message has nothing to do wuith drive detection, its referring to the Jmicron Rom chip not initialising properly as described above.

to add insult to injury.
when i tried to contact uk support
"The following message to <support@foxconchannel.co.uk> was undeliverable.
The reason for the problem:
5.1.2 - Bad destination host 'DNS Hard Error looking up foxconchannel.co.uk (MX):  NXDomain'"

Come on Foxconn your starting to make Asus support look good :)

There only seems to be one sane man here Shamino , I think my sanity is starting to crack:)
